Senior Volunteers
World at Play currently relies solely on volunteer time and effort. All of our volunteers have had the experience of joining an expedition (or two!) and are committed to realising the charity's goals of providing more sport and play opportunities to disadvantaged children, young people and adults.

Name: Richard Naylor Role: Expedition Training Citizenship(s): British WAP Expedition(s): 2004 (Then involved in training for the other two expeditions also). Best Memory from Expedition(s): At A G Matos in Croatia on the 2004 trip. The way we turned things around in just 1 week was really incredible. It was very hard work but we really saw significant behavioural changes in so few days. Favourite Sport & Game: Rugby League and Rainbow Current Job/Studies: Owner / Director at Enrich |

Name: Harri Grace Role: Website Co-ordinator Citizenship(s): British WAP Expedition(s): 2004 Best Memory from Expedition(s): Arguing with Mike and Rich about which of us should be Quarterback during the American Football session we were about to run. It highlights the level of enthusiasm we had for the games we were playing, which I think was key to making the expedition such a success. Obviously Mike and Rich eventually bowed down to my clear brilliance. Favourite Sport & Game: Rugby because it's so hard to instruct. Move forward but throw backwards is a foreign concept to most. Current Job/Studies: Television producer |

Name: Sion Lanini Role: Expedition Team Recruitment Citizenship(s): British & Swiss WAP Expedition(s): 2004 & 2011 Best Memory from Expedition(s): Running with my partner around the Egyptian Village orphanage in Mostar trying to complete the orienteering course as quick as we could! It was our last day, the moon was rising, the sky was clear and I had a real 'WOW!' moment thinking about the relationships we'd built with the youngsters that week. Favourite Sport & Game: Ultimate Frisbee for fun in the sun and Sardines for indoors on a rainy day Current Job/Studies: Working at a non-profit called A LEAP that supports young people to start their own community projects. |

Role: Expedition Team Selection Citizenship: American WAP Expedition: 2011 Best Memory from Expedition: I’m most proud of the work we did in Kosovo. Facing the toughest challenges of the trip forced us to get really creative in our planning and execution, and our efforts paid off. We saw huge gains in skill over the course of the sessions, and the kids consistently showed us how important our work was - they barely let us drive in and out of the field because they were so eager to be with us that they surrounded the van! Favourite Sport & Game: Softball and Hwah! Current Job/Studies: I’m a law student at the University of Virginia, and I hope to use my experience as an educator to become an advocate for improved educational opportunity for kids across the globe. |

Name: Danijel Vukancic Role: Partners Liaison Citizenship(s): Croatian and American WAP Expedition: 2011 Best Memory from Expedition: Breaking out in tears during the departure from the SOS Childrens Village in Novi Sad. Watching those kids gathered all around me and crying because we are leaving made me realize what a great impact we have made on them in just a short amount of time. I guess it really touched my heart in a way, and I couldn't help myself from crying too. Favourite Sport & Game: Vegetable Soup Current Job/Studies: Looking for a job in Europe right now. |

Name: Scott Sandison Role: Advisor Citizenships: Canadian and British WAP Expedition: 2011 Best Memory from Expedition: Watching the team work together leading their very first session of various games and activities in a centre for adults with learning difficulties in Croatia. The team was nervous heading in to the session but within 10 minutes everyone was having a great time and all apprehensions were lost. The week we spent there was one of the best in terms of memories for me. The countless amount of celebrations, high fives and smiles made it evident what we were doing was worthwhile. Favourite Sport & Game: Field hockey and Blowball (one of my favourite moments was when one player changed the game to hiding the ball down his pants. Classic.) Current Jobs: Athlete Ambassador Manager Right To Play, Canadian National Field Hockey Team Athlete |
